The model 3, as well as other branded EVs, are the cheapest an (ICE performance equivalent) EV has ever been. The models before that were the cheapest that EVs have ever been. And before that as well. It does not take a degree in statistics to plot a graph showing the intersection point is coming.
The graph below shows exactly what is happening to the (by far) most expensive component in an EV and why prices are going down and ranges are going up. Given the new battery releases planned for the end of this year and start of next year this trend looks to be continuing strongly in 2021/2022.
EV manufacturers do not need ranges to go up any more so between now and 2025 all the continued savings from batteries will be reducing the car sticker price. Some say the key price here is $100, others say $60. Either way 2025 ish is about right.
