It’s perfectly valid. You don’t know what would happen if all car subsidies for all car companies were removed, Tesla might well be one of few left.

What we do know for sure is that all car companies receive subsidies and most of them needed it to survive the last decade.

We know that other car companies are sitting on huge government loans while Tesla paid theirs back.

We also know that Tesla has huge access to private capital.

In summary it is misleading and completely counter contextual to talk about Tesla making a profit only from subsidies.
