A base on Ceres is certainly my more practical (profitable?), although I do wonder if we have watched too much ‘The Expanse’.

Both however are beaten by terraforming Venus. No gravity problems, no magnetic field problems and once you deflect or absorb enough of the incoming sunlight it might even terraform itself over time. Either way it’s permanent if not super long term in terms of how long it would take.

Venus could make a great place to live eventually.
